Tata Electronics has confirmed that some of its computer systems were targeted in a cyberattack, following reports that a notorious hacker group known as “World Leaks” had published confidential company data on the dark web.

According to cybersecurity experts monitoring the incident, the leaked files allegedly include highly sensitive information related to Apple and Tesla, both of which rely on Tata Electronics as a key manufacturing partner.

Experts claim that more than 200,000 confidential files stolen from Tata’s systems have been uploaded online by the hacker group.

In an official statement, Tata Electronics said: “A few weeks ago, Tata Electronics identified a cyberattack affecting certain IT assets. Our security teams responded immediately and implemented corrective measures. The incident has not affected our business operations or manufacturing activities, which continue as normal.”

A source familiar with the matter told Reuters, on condition of anonymity, that Apple is conducting its own investigation into the breach and is carrying out a detailed assessment of the leaked data.

The source also claimed that the hackers demanded a substantial ransom from Tata Electronics in exchange for returning or withholding the stolen information. However, Tata declined to comment on the alleged ransom demand, while Apple has not publicly responded.

The incident represents a significant challenge for Apple, as Tata Electronics has emerged as one of its most important iPhone manufacturing partners outside China.

World Leaks has claimed responsibility for the breach, stating on its website that the leaked material originated from Tata Electronics.

Cybersecurity expert Rajshekhar Rajahariya, who has previously advised law enforcement agencies on cybercrime cases, said his review of the leaked files revealed not only corporate information but also employee emails, historical company records, and passport copies of several foreign employees.

Another cybersecurity expert, Rakesh Krishnan, told Reuters that the stolen data has been circulating online for several days. According to his analysis, the files include engineering documents related to Tesla vehicles, including charging-system designs for the new Model Y and blueprints for the Model 3, both reportedly marked as “trade secret.”

The leaked material also allegedly contains documents related to iPhone production, including circuit-board quality testing procedures and dozens of files linked to Tata’s iPhone manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

Tata Electronics reportedly informed some employees about the data breach last week. The company currently manufactures approximately one-third of all iPhones produced in India, making the incident particularly significant for the global technology supply chain.
