Karachi: A sudden fire broke out at an Imtiaz Store in the Clifton area of Karachi early morning, prompting a swift response from fire brigade teams who managed to bring the blaze under control without any loss of life.

According to Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan, the fire was reported at around 6am, after which fire tenders were immediately dispatched from the Saddar Fire Station to the site.

He said the fire initially erupted in the basement of the store and was contained, but flames later spread to multiple points on the ground floor, where firefighting efforts continued.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have started near an ATM machine. Fortunately, no staff were present inside the building at the time, while store management had initially attempted to control the fire before emergency teams arrived.

The chief fire officer noted that the blaze intensified due to the presence of a false ceiling, which allowed fire and smoke to spread rapidly. He added that the absence of an effective smoke exhaust system caused heavy smoke accumulation inside the building, complicating rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that all individuals had been safely evacuated and no one remained inside the premises.

Speaking to media, he said that authorities were fully focused on firefighting and rescue efforts, adding that a city-wide fire safety audit is currently underway to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
