Committee Setup for Chitral Tourism Boost

Peshawar: Inspector General Frontier Corps (North), Noor Wali Khan, proposed Chitral as an ideal alternative and disclosed the establishment of a committee, led by Commissioner Malakand and local representatives, aimed at boosting tourism in the region. Stressing collective efforts, he emphasized the need for concerted actions.

He was speaking at a symposium organized by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), Tourism Department, and Frontier Corps North to highlight the importance of promoting cultural heritage and Chitral’s tourism potential.Committee Setup for Chitral Tourism BoostThe speakers noted the provincial government’s active engagement in promoting tourism through essential infrastructure development. In 2023, Chitral attracted tourists from various countries, with 789 local visitors exploring upper Chitral and an additional 1,590 tourists, including locals, visiting the region.

Tourism and Information Minister Feroz Jamal Shah Kakakhel stressed the necessity of promoting tourism and showcasing Chitral’s rich, diverse culture. He urged tourists to visit Chitral to experience its beauty and heritage.

The KP chief secretary highlighted government initiatives to promote tourism in Chitral, stating that the symposium provided stakeholders with an opportunity to address problems and plan a way forward. The initiative of living with natives was noted as a way for tourists to enjoy and understand local culture, contributing to tourism in KP and enhancing its peaceful environment and positive global image.

Event speakers emphasized the importance of promoting Chitral’s culture and its preservation to attract tourists. The symposium, attended by various stakeholders in the country’s tourism and hospitality sector, featured stalls showcasing local dresses, gemstones, Chitrali caps, and other products. A documentary highlighting Chitral’s beauty was screened.
