Bangladesh Crush Australia as Mosaddek, Rana Shine

Dhaka: Bangladesh produced one of the most convincing performances in their ODI history to defeat Australia by 86 runs (DLS method) in the opening match of the series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
Powered by a career-best unbeaten 86 from returning all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain and a fiery four-wicket haul from pace sensation Nahid Rana, Bangladesh outclassed the visitors in all departments to register only their second-ever ODI victory over Australia.
The hosts posted a competitive 284 for 8 after being asked to bat first, with Mosaddek anchoring the innings following valuable contributions from Najmul Hossain Shanto (67) and Tanzid Hasan Tamim (54).
Making his ODI return after four years, Mosaddek seized his opportunity in style. After arriving at the crease during the middle overs, he paced his innings expertly before accelerating late, striking innovative boundaries and a towering six to guide Bangladesh beyond the 280-run mark.

His innings was complemented by Shanto and Tanzid, who laid a solid platform with aggressive half-centuries. Bangladesh also benefited from Australia’s sloppy fielding, as the tourists dropped four catches, including three chances offered by Mosaddek.
Australia’s chase never gained momentum
Taskin Ahmed struck with the very first ball of the innings, bowling Matthew Short, while Mustafizur Rahman trapped Marnus Labuschagne lbw to leave the tourists reeling at 2 for 2.
From there, Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure. Rana, using his pace and bounce effectively, removed Australian captain Josh Inglis and later dismissed Alex Carey, Liam Scott and Xavier Bartlett to finish with impressive figures of 4 for 41.
Mosaddek capped a memorable comeback by claiming two wickets, including the key scalp of Cooper Connolly, while Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack kept Australia on the back foot throughout the chase.
Only Cameron Green showed resistance for the visitors, remaining unbeaten on 52, but the all-rounder received little support from the rest of the batting lineup as wickets continued to tumble around him.
Rain and lightning interrupted proceedings before the conclusion of the match, but with Australia struggling at 191 for 9 after 42.2 overs, Bangladesh were declared winners by 86 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
The victory not only gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the series but also highlighted the growing impact of emerging talents such as Rana and the value of experienced campaigners like Mosaddek, whose remarkable comeback proved decisive on a memorable night in Dhaka.
