Islamabad:As millions of Muslims across Pakistan observe the Day of Ashura, the remembrance of the tragedy of Karbala continues to serve as a powerful reminder that the values of truth, justice and sacrifice transcend time.
The 10th of Muharram is not only a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his loyal companions, but also an occasion for reflection on the principles they upheld against oppression.
Across the country, mourning processions, Majalis, Alam, Taaziya and Dhul-Jinnah processions are being held with deep religious devotion and respect, as scholars recount the lessons of Karbala and its enduring relevance in today’s world.
From major cities to small towns, devotees have gathered to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. Religious scholars have emphasized that Imam Hussain’s (RA) stand was not merely a historical event but a universal message of courage, steadfastness and unwavering commitment to justice and human dignity.
To ensure peaceful observance, federal and provincial authorities have implemented extensive security measures. Police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed along procession routes and at sensitive locations, while monitoring systems remain active to prevent any untoward incidents.
Marking the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari said Ashura reminds Muslims of the timeless values of sacrifice, patience, perseverance, truth and justice. He noted that the tragedy of Karbala demonstrated that truth and human dignity can never be compromised in the face of oppression and falsehood.
The President called upon citizens to embrace the principles of sacrifice, service to humanity and patience while promoting peace, interfaith harmony, tolerance and brotherhood. He also urged the nation to avoid spreading rumours and engaging in activities that could disrupt communal harmony.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Ashura as a day that offers lasting lessons of faith, resilience, justice and social reform. He said the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions continue to inspire generations to stand firmly for truth and uphold human dignity despite overwhelming challenges.
The Prime Minister urged religious scholars, community leaders, media organizations and young people to help spread the true message of Karbala by fostering unity, mutual respect and religious harmony. He also prayed for lasting peace, stability, prosperity and national cohesion in Pakistan, as well as unity among the Muslim Ummah.
As the nation observes Ashura, the spirit of Karbala continues to remind people that sacrifice for justice, compassion for humanity and steadfastness in the face of adversity remain values that are as relevant today as they were more than 1,300 years ago.
