Islamabad: OPPO’s upcoming ColorOS 17 update could mark another major shift in Android interface design, with leaks suggesting the company is preparing a more visually immersive and iOS-inspired software experience.

According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, ColorOS 17 may introduce expanded “liquid glass” visuals, enhanced lighting effects and smoother animations across various parts of the user interface. The redesign is expected to build on the “Luminous Design” language already seen in ColorOS 16.

The leak suggests OPPO is planning to add more real-time light rendering effects to notifications, pop-up windows and the music Live Alert interface. Rounded corners across overlays and menus are also expected to become more refined, potentially giving the interface a softer and more unified appearance.

Current versions of ColorOS already use frosted glass aesthetics and blur effects in areas such as the notification panel, app drawer, dial pad and several first-party apps. However, the new update could significantly enhance those visuals with dynamic lighting and more fluid transitions, especially on flagship devices with stronger graphics hardware.

The move reflects a broader industry trend in which Android manufacturers are increasingly adopting design cues associated with Apple’s iOS. Companies including Vivo and Xiaomi have recently introduced glass-inspired elements and animation systems in their own Android skins.

For example, Vivo’s OriginOS 6 incorporates transparent glass-like effects in the lock screen and quick settings menu, while Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 reportedly borrows visual ideas from Apple’s Dynamic Island and notification styling.

Industry observers believe these interface changes are aimed at making Android devices feel more premium and familiar to users switching from iPhones.

Beyond aesthetics, ColorOS 17 is also expected to focus heavily on software smoothness and AI-powered features. OPPO has already expanded its AI tools in recent ColorOS releases, particularly on flagship smartphones such as the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s.

Although OPPO has yet to officially reveal ColorOS 17, the latest leaks indicate the company may be preparing one of its biggest visual redesigns in years as competition among Android software ecosystems intensifies.
