Ward Boy in OT: Sargodha Hospital Faces Safety Questions
News Desk
Sargodha: A controversy over patient safety has emerged at Sargodha Teaching Hospital after a video showing a ward servant stitching a patient inside an operation theatre (OT) sparked concerns about unauthorized medical procedures and supervision failures.
Hospital sources alleged that the ward servant had been performing surgical tasks in place of qualified surgeons. However, the hospital administration rejected the claim, stating that the employee was only assisting the surgeon-in-charge and carried out dressing and patient shifting duties under medical supervision.
An inquiry conducted by Dr Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital, Sargodha, presented a mixed picture. While the report stated that the allegation of the ward servant performing operations could not be proven, it recommended departmental action against the employee for his role in the incident.
The inquiry also questioned the lapse in oversight, warning senior doctors over negligence in supervising activities inside the operation theatre. It further raised concerns over who recorded the video inside the restricted area and how it was allowed to surface.
The incident has renewed debate over patient safety protocols, accountability of hospital staff, and the need for stricter monitoring of non-medical employees in sensitive healthcare areas.
