Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday took serious notice of the brutal torture of a female camel in the Chachhro area of Tharparkar district and directed authorities to ensure the animal receives the best possible veterinary treatment.

The chief minister instructed the Livestock and Fisheries Department to provide round-the-clock monitoring and medical care until the camel fully recovers.

According to a report submitted by Secretary Livestock Kazim Jatoi, the condition of the 13-year-old camel is now stable following treatment. The animal is reportedly able to stand, walk, eat and drink without major difficulty.

Officials informed the chief minister that the camel had sustained severe injuries, including the complete rupture of its right eye, allegedly due to brutal physical torture.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, Murad Ali Shah said cruelty against animals was intolerable and had no place in a civilised society.

Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Haleem Jagirani informed the chief minister that he had personally visited the village to assess the camel’s condition, which has shown considerable improvement.

Meanwhile, SSP Tharparkar Arif Aziz confirmed that police had registered an FIR at Khensar Police Station and arrested two accused persons in connection with the case.

According to a report prepared by the Directorate of Animal Husbandry Sindh, a veterinary team visited the affected village in Union Council Charnhor, Taluka Chachhro, on June 9 and conducted a detailed medical examination of the injured animal.

The report stated that the camel’s right eyeball had been completely ruptured and irreversibly damaged, while the left eye was severely swollen due to stress-related inflammation. Multiple bruises and injuries were also found on various parts of the body, suggesting physical torture with wooden sticks or other blunt objects. The animal was additionally suffering from severe weakness, fatigue and malnourishment.

According to the camel’s owner, the animal was allegedly captured by a neighbouring individual on May 25 and kept confined at his residence, where it was subjected to severe abuse. The owner reportedly recovered the camel two days later but delayed reporting the incident due to alleged threats and pressure from the accused.

The chief minister directed the Livestock Department to continue providing all necessary treatment and submit regular updates regarding the animal’s health.

A special veterinary team comprising veterinary surgeons, officers and livestock staff has been deployed for continuous monitoring, while daily follow-up examinations are being conducted to assess the camel’s recovery.

Murad Ali Shah also appreciated the prompt response of the Livestock and Fisheries Department and directed officials to ensure the availability of all resources required for the camel’s treatment and rehabilitation.
