Trump Signals Possible US Move on Iran’s Oil Hub
News Desk
Washington: President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could take control of Iran’s oil resources, including its key export hub, Kharg Island, in remarks that signal a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Speaking to British media, Trump said his preference would be for the US to “take the oil” in Iran, adding that Washington has multiple options under consideration, including the possibility of seizing Kharg Island, the country’s primary oil export terminal.
He acknowledged that such a move could require a prolonged presence, stating that the US might have to remain there “for some time” if control of the island is established.
Kharg Island is considered the backbone of Iran’s oil economy, handling the vast majority of the country’s crude exports, making it a strategically critical target in any conflict scenario.
Trump also drew parallels with recent US actions in Venezuela, where Washington moved to control oil resources following political upheaval earlier this year.

His remarks come amid intensifying regional tensions, as the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran continues to expand across the Gulf. The situation has heightened fears of attacks on energy infrastructure and contributed to a sharp rise in global oil prices.
Reports indicate that the US Department of Defense is preparing for potential ground operations in Iran, with troop deployments already underway and further reinforcements under consideration.
Claims of Regime Change
Trump also reiterated claims of political change in Iran, asserting that the country’s leadership has shifted following the reported killing of senior figures, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
He described the current leadership as “very professional” and different from the past.
The US president further claimed that Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may have been killed or seriously injured, stating that there had been no recent public confirmation of his condition.
However, authorities in Tehran have rejected these assertions, maintaining that the country’s leadership remains intact and that Mojtaba Khamenei is safe, despite his absence from public view.
