Islamabad: Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that Pakistan remains actively engaged in efforts to sustain the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and to help resolve outstanding disputes between the two sides.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister praised the political and military leadership for facilitating what he described as a rare diplomatic breakthrough, noting Pakistan’s continued engagement in follow-up efforts after the initial ceasefire agreement.

He said Pakistan had played a constructive role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table after decades of limited engagement, adding that delegations from Washington and Tehran had participated in extended discussions in Islamabad at Pakistan’s invitation.

According to the prime minister, the talks marked one of the most significant direct contacts between the two countries in recent years, with discussions continuing for more than 20 hours, although no final agreement was reached.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s efforts had helped maintain the temporary ceasefire and that work was still underway to address unresolved issues through diplomatic channels.

He also expressed gratitude to both the United States and Iran for participating in the process and acknowledging Pakistan’s facilitation role, stating that both delegations appreciated the country’s hospitality and constructive engagement.

The Islamabad discussions are being viewed as part of broader regional diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East, which have impacted global energy supplies and financial markets in recent months.
