Seven Children Die in Suspected Measles Cases
News Desk
Rahim Yar Khan: At least seven children have died in suspected measles cases in the town of Hakim Abdullah, located in Rahim Yar Khan, over the past six weeks, raising concerns about public health conditions in the area.
According to Dr Babar Ali, the deceased children were between the ages of two and six. Local residents identified the victims as two-year-old Maimuna, Ishrat Fatima, and Haseena; three-year-olds Sakina and Nadeem; and six-year-olds Amna Fahim and Fizza.
Health officials say delays in seeking proper medical care contributed to the fatalities. Dr Babar Ali stated that some parents turned to unqualified practitioners instead of certified healthcare providers, leading to worsening conditions. Authorities have initiated legal action against individuals allegedly involved in such practices.
Officials also noted that many of the affected children were suffering from malnutrition and low body weight, factors that may have increased their vulnerability to severe illness.
The district administration, along with the health department, is closely monitoring the situation. Emergency response measures include the deployment of mobile healthcare services, with a “Clinic on Wheels” now operating in the affected area to provide immediate medical assistance.
Investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact cause of the deaths and to prevent further spread of disease.
