Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has proposed setting up a dedicated German Trade Desk and a Pakistan-Germany Joint Chamber of Commerce to help Pakistani businesses gain greater access to European markets and expand bilateral commercial ties.

The proposal was presented during a meeting between RCCI President Usman Shaukat and German Ambassador Ina Lepel during her visit to the chamber on Wednesday.

The RCCI said stronger institutional support could help businesses identify new market opportunities, develop partnerships and increase investment between the two countries.

Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Germany currently exceeds $2.5 billion, with Pakistan exporting nearly $1.7 billion worth of goods to Germany while imports stand at around $880 million.

Shaukat called for greater cooperation in sectors with significant growth potential, including information technology, agriculture and agri-tech, fintech, energy-efficient construction, pharmaceuticals, mining and small and medium-sized enterprises.

He also appreciated Germany’s continued support for Pakistan’s GSP+ status, which has played an important role in facilitating Pakistani exports to the European market.

Ambassador Ina Lepel reaffirmed Germany’s interest in strengthening economic relations with Pakistan, particularly through private-sector development, climate action, healthcare and vocational training.

The ambassador also acknowledged the resilience of Pakistan’s business community and stressed the importance of continued engagement on matters related to GSP+.

Both sides agreed to step up efforts to promote trade, investment, technology transfer and direct business-to-business cooperation, with the aim of creating stronger foundations for sustainable economic growth.

Senior RCCI officials, executive committee members and representatives from various business sectors attended the meeting.
