PDMA Issues Alert as Rain Forecast for Parts of Balochistan
News Desk
Islamabad: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan has issued a weather alert for upper and central districts of the province, warning of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds from the night of July 7 through July 8.
The advisory follows a forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which said a westerly wave interacting with moist currents from the Bay of Bengal is expected to trigger unstable weather across several parts of the province.
Districts likely to be affected include Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Duki, Harnai, Loralai, Sibi, Barkhan, Musakhail, Khuzdar, Dera Bugti and adjoining areas.
PDMA warned that strong winds could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including weak buildings, electricity poles, billboards and solar panels, while thunderstorms may also bring the risk of lightning strikes in some locations.
In response, the authority has directed deputy commissioners, District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and other relevant departments to remain on high alert, ensure emergency response teams and equipment are ready, and take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.
Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the latest weather forecasts, while residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather and stay away from weak structures, trees and electricity installations.
District administrations have also been instructed to closely monitor weather conditions, coordinate with relevant agencies, disseminate timely public advisories and submit regular situation reports to the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC).
PDMA said it remains fully prepared to respond to any weather-related emergency and urged the public to stay updated through official advisories issued by the PMD and the disaster management authority.
