Pakistan Mediates as Iran Pushes Back on US Peace Proposal
News Desk
Islamabad/Tehran: Iran has delivered a firmly negative response to a US peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the region, signaling that Tehran will not accept any conditions dictated by Washington, according to Iranian state media.
The Iranian reaction, conveyed to the United States via Pakistan as a mediator, emphasizes Tehran’s insistence that the war can only conclude on its own terms and after specific conditions are met.
These include a complete halt to aggression and assassinations, mechanisms preventing future hostilities, payment of war damages, recognition of all resistance groups, and international guarantees over Iran’s authority in the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan has emerged as the key intermediary in these delicate talks. Reports indicate that Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Staff, recently held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
Islamabad has also been back-channeling communications between Tehran and US officials, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
While the venue for direct talks has not yet been finalized, Pakistani leaders have expressed readiness to host negotiations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed on social media that Pakistan is prepared to facilitate discussions aimed at ending the conflict.
Iranian officials drew parallels with previous rounds of negotiations in 2025, which they say were followed by US military actions, and dismissed the latest proposal as a potential ploy to escalate tensions.
Analysts suggest that Pakistan’s mediation could prove pivotal in bridging the gap between Tehran’s stringent conditions and Washington’s diplomatic approach, as the region continues to navigate a fragile ceasefire.
