Islamabad: Pakistan on Tuesday strongly condemned the missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s energy facilities, describing them as a “dangerous escalation” that threatens regional peace and stability.

In an official statement, the Foreign Office expressed deep concern over the attacks in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region, mourning the loss of life and damage to critical infrastructure. Pakistan also extended condolences to the families of victims and reaffirmed its solidarity with the Saudi government and people.

“The government of Pakistan considers these attacks a serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a dangerous escalation that undermines regional peace and stability,” the statement said, emphasizing Pakistan’s continued support for the Kingdom’s security.

PM Speaks with Saudi Crown Prince

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, conveying Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity” and condemning the attack on the Al Jubeil oil facility.

The premier appreciated Saudi Arabia’s restraint during the crisis and reaffirmed Pakistan’s role in promoting de-escalation and peace efforts in the region.

According to a handout from the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders also discussed ongoing hostilities in the Middle East. The crown prince acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring regional stability.

Attack on Saudi Arabia

Saudi authorities reported that ballistic missiles and drones targeted the eastern region, including a petrochemical complex in Jubail, home to the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).

Fires were reported at the plants, though workers were evacuated safely. Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia issued public safety alerts, and the causeway linking Saudi Arabia to Bahrain was briefly closed as a precaution.

While Saudi Arabia intercepted most projectiles, analysts have noted that the attacks followed escalating tensions after US and Israeli actions against Iran earlier this year. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement last year, pledging joint response to any external aggression.

Pakistan’s Role in Regional Stability

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in deterring heavier Iranian strikes. Additionally, Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir met with Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud to discuss security coordination, while Prime Minister Shehbaz met the Saudi crown prince to reaffirm Pakistan’s “full solidarity and support” amid the crisis.

The ongoing diplomatic and military engagements underline Pakistan’s commitment to regional security, emphasizing mediation and strategic support in response to escalating tensions in the Gulf.
