NHMP Bans Animal-Laden Vehicles on Motorways Before Eid
News Desk
Islamabad: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has banned the entry of vehicles carrying sacrificial animals on motorways ahead of Eidul Azha in a bid to ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during the busy travel season.
According to an NHMP spokesperson, overloaded, unfit and improperly loaded vehicles transporting animals pose serious risks on highways and motorways, often leading to traffic accidents and congestion. Under the new restrictions, such vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes instead of being allowed onto the motorway network.

The spokesperson said the decision was taken after several serious accidents involving animal-laden vehicles were reported in previous years, causing loss of lives and property damage.
To strengthen enforcement, the Motorway Police has requested the police departments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to establish checkpoints near motorway entry points and cattle markets. The checkpoints will help prevent unsafe or overloaded vehicles from entering motorways.
Officials said the measures are aimed at facilitating commuters and reducing traffic hazards during Eid-related travel and cattle transportation activities.
The NHMP has urged transporters and livestock traders to follow safety regulations and use designated routes to avoid inconvenience and ensure safer travel for the public during Eidul Azha preparations.
