Washington: JD Vance is expected to lead the United States delegation in the upcoming 2nd round of negotiations with Iran, according to reports by CNN.
The report suggests that if talks resume before the end of the current ceasefire, the US Vice President will head the delegation. The American team is also likely to include Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Earlier, Donald Trump indicated that discussions with Iran could resume within days.
Key unresolved issues include the timeline for suspending uranium enrichment, dismantling nuclear facilities, and reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
US-Iran Negotiations Continue Amid Ceasefire: Vance
Vice President JD Vance has confirmed that negotiations with Iran are ongoing under a ceasefire arrangement.
Speaking at the University of Georgia, Vance stated that Iranian negotiators appear willing to reach an agreement but acknowledged deep-rooted mistrust between the two sides.
“There is a lot of distrust between the US and Iran, and it cannot be overcome overnight,” he said, emphasizing Washington’s aim for a comprehensive agreement.
He added that the proposed deal must ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons or engage in state-sponsored terrorism, while also allowing its people to integrate into the global economy.
Vance noted that such high-level negotiations between the US and Iran have not taken place in nearly five decades and reiterated that President Trump seeks a “comprehensive, not a limited” deal.
