Islamabad Becomes Hub of Muslim World’s Women’s Dialogue

Islamabad: Pakistan is hosting the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women, bringing together delegates from 57 member states to deliberate on women’s empowerment, development, equal rights, and the challenges confronting women across the Muslim world.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar said that hosting the conference is a significant honour for Pakistan. He noted that representatives from OIC member countries, along with various technical working groups, are participating in the event.

Tarar said that technical sessions of the conference are currently underway, while the main ministerial-level meeting will take place tomorrow, with participation from observers and ministerial delegations.

He said the chairmanship of the conference will be handed over from Egypt to Pakistan, which will lead the forum for the next two years. He described the responsibility as a major milestone and reaffirmed that Pakistan is prepared to effectively carry forward the agenda of women’s rights and development.

An Islamabad Declaration will also be issued at the conclusion of the conference, reflecting key commitments and future priorities.

He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the inaugural session, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima are also expected to attend the event.

Tarar appreciated the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and acknowledged the cooperation of the Ministry of Information and Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar in organizing the conference.

He emphasized that ensuring equal rights and empowering women remain the central themes of the gathering. Pakistan’s initiatives and efforts for women’s development will also be presented during the conference sessions.

“This is the first time Pakistan is hosting this important event,” Tarar said, adding that the OIC is the second-largest international organization after the United Nations.

He expressed confidence that Pakistan will fulfill its responsibilities as the OIC Women’s Conference chair and work towards promoting women’s rights, empowerment, and development across member states.
