Dow University Develops Anti-Rabies Vaccine ‘Dow Rab’

News Desk

Islamabad: Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi has unveiled a groundbreaking anti-rabies vaccine named ‘Dow Rab’ to combat rabies resulting from dog bites.

During the inaugural ceremony of ‘Dow Rab’, Professor Muhammad Saeed Qureshi, the Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, emphasized that the vaccine will be readily available to victims through a simple phone call.

The initiative promises to deliver the vaccine to the specified location within 48 hours of receiving a call.

Initially launched in Sindh province, the service aims to expand nationwide in the future.

This development is crucial given the lack of availability of dog and snake bite protection vaccines in government hospitals across Sindh, leading to numerous fatalities.

Reports indicate instances of vaccine shortages in hospitals, particularly in rural areas, or refusal by hospital staff to administer vaccines to general patients.

The Sindh province witnesses thousands of tick bite cases annually, with hundreds occurring in the capital city, Karachi.

This initiative by Dow University addresses a critical public health need and could potentially save countless lives across the country.
