Honolulu: American adventurer Kelsey Fendler has made history by becoming the first American woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean without assistance.
According to international media reports, Fendler completed the grueling 2,400-mile (3,860-kilometre) journey from Monterey, California, to Hawaii in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes, setting a new world record.
The 21-year-old rower departed Monterey on May 21, 2026, aboard her 21-foot boat, Lily, and arrived on the Hawaiian coast on the night of July 3, 2026.
Her remarkable achievement shattered the previous women’s record of 86 days and surpassed the men’s record of 52 days, making her the fastest person to complete the route in the solo, unsupported category.
In addition to setting the fastest crossing time, Fendler also became the youngest woman to successfully complete the challenging Pacific route.
