Heavy Rain In Lahore Inundates Low-Lying Areas
News Desk
Lahore: Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds lashed the provincial capital on Thursday. Resultantly, water penetrated homes and businesses in downtown due to a blocked sewage system.
It rained intermittently for more than eight hours on Wednesday late at night, changing in intensity from light to heavy with occasional gaps. Traffic signals malfunctioned in numerous parts of the city, causing havoc on the roads.
The power supply was still suspended in the majority of the city. The intense downpour revealed the performance of civic bodies.
Qartab Chowk received the highest rainfall which was recorded at 153 millimetres (mm), while PaniWalaTalab, LaxmiChowk and Jail Road were poured with 108, 104, and 71.6 mm, respectively. The city-district government machinery remained active during and after rain but could not succeed in draining out water from most roads.
Meanwhile, more dust/thunderstorm-rain is likely in south Punjab and dust-storm/dust-raising winds are likely over plain areas of the country during the next 24 hours, stated Pakistan Meteorological Department Spokesman.

Late Wednesday, heavy rain and thunderstorms struck multiple parts of the city, with Korangi recording the highest rainfall at 55.6mm.
The storm left residents reeling from loss of life and property damage, while intermittent showers continued into Thursday morning across areas such as North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, and adjoining localities.
