Mumbai: Nita Ambani, known for her elegant style and influence in India’s fashion and cultural circles, has once again captured attention with a remarkable saree that highlights the artistry of traditional Indian craftsmanship.

At a recent event, the 62-year-old philanthropist and wife of Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani appeared in a delicate mauve chiffon saree that took an entire year to create.

Beyond its beauty, the garment has drawn attention within the fashion industry for showcasing the skill and dedication of traditional artisans.

The hand-embroidered Chikankari saree was developed through an initiative founded by Nita Ambani that focuses on preserving and promoting India’s rich textile and handicraft heritage.

According to reports, master artisan Anjani Kashyap from Lucknow spent a year meticulously completing the intricate embroidery work. The saree features several traditional Chikankari techniques, including jali, murri, ghaspatti, and balda work—hallmarks of the centuries-old craft associated with the northern Indian city of Lucknow.

Chikankari is one of South Asia’s most celebrated embroidery traditions, renowned worldwide for its delicate handwork, fine detailing, and timeless elegance. Fashion experts note that the growing appreciation for handcrafted luxury pieces has renewed interest in such heritage crafts, helping preserve skills that have been passed down through generations.

Complementing the saree was a custom-designed blouse by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Featuring modern pleats and ruffle detailing, the blouse blended contemporary fashion with traditional craftsmanship, creating a sophisticated and balanced look.

Nita Ambani completed the ensemble with diamond drop earrings, a diamond bracelet, a statement ring, and an elegant wristwatch. The carefully selected accessories enhanced the understated luxury of the outfit while allowing the craftsmanship of the saree to remain the focal point.

Fashion observers say the appearance reflects a broader trend in luxury fashion, where heritage textiles and handcrafted techniques are increasingly valued alongside modern design.

In an era dominated by fast fashion and mass production, garments such as this Chikankari saree highlight the enduring appeal of artisanal craftsmanship and the importance of preserving cultural traditions through fashion.
