Ancient Structure Discovered in Jandial, KP

KHANPUR: An ancient structure measuring nearly 100 metres long and 50 metres wide has been uncovered at Jandial in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khanpur-Taxila region, marking a significant archaeological discovery that promises to deepen our understanding of the Gandhara civilization.

The newly identified monument, referred to as Jandial D, is situated opposite the renowned Ionic temple of Jandial, adjacent to the ancient fortified city of Sirkap.

This site, first documented by British archaeologist Alexander Cunningham in 1864, has remained largely unexplored for over a century, until now.

According to a press release from local authorities, this discovery opens “new avenues for understanding the history and urban landscape of Gandhara.”

This finding is expected to attract both local and international interest, potentially boosting tourism and academic research in the region.

The Gandhara civilization, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, may see renewed focus as scholars and enthusiasts seek to explore the implications of this discovery on ancient urban planning and architecture.

Authorities plan to conduct further excavations and studies at the site to uncover more about the structure’s purpose and its role within the broader context of Gandhara’s historical narrative.

The excavation team is optimistic about revealing additional artifacts that could provide insights into the daily lives and practices of the people who once inhabited this area.
