Islamabad: Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has dismissed false rumours of his death circulating on social media, responding with humour in a video shared on Instagram.

In the video, the legendary fast bowler mocked the baseless claims and urged people not to believe fake news.

“I hope everyone is doing well,” Akram said. “For the past few days, false rumours about my death have been circulating on social media. If people still cannot distinguish fake news in this modern era, then what can I say? I’m just a 60-year-old boy.”

He also joked about receiving messages from people asking whether he was still alive.

“A 21-gun salute to those who have been messaging me and asking, ‘Are you alive?'” he said sarcastically, before adding, “No, I am making this video after my death.”

Akram criticised those responsible for creating fake videos and spreading misinformation, saying they should use their creativity for something more productive.

“Those who worked so hard to make fake videos about famous cricketers should put that effort into something positive. If they use their minds in the right direction, they can achieve great success,” he said.

The former Pakistan captain also quoted a Punjabi proverb, saying, “Loading books onto a donkey does not make it a scholar,” adding that wisdom requires understanding and intelligence, not just imitation.

Rumours of Akram’s death had circulated widely on social media in recent days, prompting concern among fans before the cricket icon personally refuted the false claims.
