India Declines Trophy From ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi

Islamabad: The presentation ceremony at the Women’s Asia Cup final has sparked controversy after India’s women’s team reportedly refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi.

Naqvi was the chief guest at the final, where the trophy presentation arrangements had reportedly been completed and the silverware was ready to be handed to the winning team. However, according to sources, the Indian players chose not to accept the trophy from the ACC president.

Sources said there had been no change in Naqvi’s position and that he remained firm on his stance. The trophy will now reportedly be transferred to the Asian Cricket Council’s office, while the trophy from the previous event also remains available for collection.

On the field, India secured a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title after defeating defending champions Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final.

India set Sri Lanka a target of 184 runs, but the defending champions were bowled out for 111. Sri Lankan captain Chamari scored 36 runs, while Nilakshika contributed 22.

The trophy controversy follows a similar incident involving the Indian men’s team last year, when the team also reportedly declined to receive the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.
