UAE: A powerful overnight storm has put authorities across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on high alert, as heavy rainfall, intense lightning, and strong winds disrupted normal life and raised safety concerns in multiple regions.

According to officials, the storm system swept across key emirates including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah, prompting emergency advisories and precautionary measures.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a flash flood alert shortly after midnight as the weather system intensified, with rainfall peaking at 47.9mm in Fujairah.

Flooding was reported in parts of Ras Al Khaimah, particularly along Emirates Road, where runoff from nearby valleys inundated sections of the highway and forced diversions.

Authorities moved swiftly to minimize risks. Dubai Police and the Ministry of Interior circulated safety advisories in multiple languages, including Urdu, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, keep safe distances while driving, and steer clear of flooded areas and fast-flowing water.

The severe weather also disrupted travel plans.

Dubai Airports warned passengers of possible delays and advised extra travel time to reach airports, while authorities temporarily closed Jebel Jais mountain in Ras Al Khaimah due to hazardous conditions.

Residents described the storm as unusually intense, with continuous lightning and thunder lasting for hours and dramatically reducing visibility in some areas. Hail was also reported in isolated locations.

Officials say unstable conditions, including thunderstorms, gusty winds, and intermittent rain, are expected to persist through Friday before gradually easing.

Clearer skies and cooler temperatures are forecast from Saturday onward, as authorities continue to urge the public to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines.
