PMD Forecasts Rain, Warns of Flooding

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in scattered areas of Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours, with showers also expected at a few places in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and northeastern Balochistan.
According to the Met Department, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in the southern parts of the country.
Heavy rainfall may cause water accumulation and inundation in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar, while urban flooding is possible in Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Gujranwala and Sialkot.
The department has also warned of a risk of flash flooding in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Landslides are also possible in mountainous areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Met Department cautioned that heavy rain, hailstorms, strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures and pose risks to vulnerable areas.
Authorities and residents in vulnerable districts have been advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures during periods of heavy rainfall.
The department has also warned of a risk of flash flooding in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Dera Ghazi Khan.
