Marriyum Accuses Imran Khan of Profiting From Toshakhana Gifts
Staff Report
Islamabad: The controversy surrounding Toshakhana gifts intensified as Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb accused former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan of benefiting financially from state gifts and demanded transparency over their sale and proceeds.
Addressing a press conference, the minister rejected Imran Khan’s stance that “my gifts, my choice” applied to Toshakhana items, saying that while government officials may retain gifts according to rules, they cannot use state assets for personal financial gain.
She explained that Toshakhana is responsible for managing valuable gifts received by public office holders from foreign dignitaries and governments as part of diplomatic exchanges.
According to Aurangzeb, Imran Khan retained 58 gifts during his tenure, including luxury items, at a reduced valuation before selling some of them in the market. She alleged that the proceeds from these transactions significantly increased his income and called for disclosure of the complete financial details related to the gifts.
The minister asked the PTI chairman to present the money trail of Toshakhana transactions and provide answers regarding allegations of misuse of authority.
She also raised questions over other issues, including tax records and foreign funding matters, while criticizing the previous government’s performance on inflation, unemployment, debt, and governance.
Aurangzeb further said action was being taken against individuals involved in alleged campaigns targeting state institutions on social media, adding that relevant authorities were investigating such activities.
She also claimed that some files were missing from the Prime Minister’s Office after the change of government and said further details would be shared after verification.
The minister said the government would continue to ensure accountability, adding that legal action would follow wherever misuse of authority was established.
