Beaconhouse’s Solar Shift Brings Environmental Gains

Islamabad:  A renewable energy initiative by Beaconhouse Group has significantly reduced carbon emissions, with solar panels installed across its campuses and buildings offsetting more than 3,083 tonnes of carbon emissions over the past two years.

The reduction is estimated to have an environmental impact equivalent to planting over 6,200 trees, highlighting the potential of solar energy in reducing reliance on traditional power sources.

According to the organization, solar panels have been installed at 26 Beaconhouse campuses, where students have also participated in research projects exploring the role of solar energy in reducing air pollution, lowering dependence on non-renewable energy, and cutting electricity costs.

Around 1,800 Grade 8 students took part in research activities focused on factors that can improve the efficiency and performance of photovoltaic solar panels.

The initiative was highlighted on the occasion of Earth Day, which focuses on raising awareness about environmental protection, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting sustainable practices.

Beaconhouse Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Beacon Energy Limited (BEL) Nassir Kasuri said Pakistan faces increasing environmental challenges due to population growth, urbanization, and rising energy demands, making sustainable solutions essential.

He said the organization is working to expand the use of photovoltaic technology as part of efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote cleaner energy alternatives.

The company said its solar projects aim not only to reduce emissions but also to encourage students and communities to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Earth Day is observed annually on April 22, with participation from millions of people worldwide to promote awareness about climate change and environmental conservation.
