Islamabad: Pakistan’s security forces have killed nine more suspected militants during the ongoing Operation Shaaban in Balochistan, bringing the total number of militants killed since the launch of the operation to 52, according to security sources.
The joint operation, involving the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan and police, is continuing in remote mountainous areas where militants were believed to be hiding.
Security sources said the latest casualties resulted from coordinated air and ground operations targeting militant hideouts. Search and clearance operations are also continuing in several areas as part of the wider counterterrorism campaign.
According to the sources, a total of 88 suspected militants have been killed since July 5 in Operation Shaaban and other intelligence-based operations carried out across Balochistan.
The military refers to the militants as Fitna-ul-Khawarij, a term it uses for certain militant groups.
Security officials said the operation would continue until militant networks in the province are dismantled, adding that forces remain committed to maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
No independent confirmation of the casualty figures was immediately available. The identities of those killed and details of any casualties among security personnel were not disclosed.
