Jeddah: In a high-stakes diplomatic push amid escalating regional tensions, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s ambition to act as a bridge for peace in the Middle East, expressing full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and praising its leadership for “exemplary patience” during the ongoing crisis.
During a nearly two-hour “warm and cordial” meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role, particularly its involvement in facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as hosting what he termed “historic” talks between the two rivals in Islamabad.
Framing Pakistan as a credible mediator, the prime minister reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to sustaining dialogue between Washington and Tehran to achieve long-term regional stability.

Sharif conveyed condolences over the loss of lives in recent escalations and emphasized that “the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder” with their Saudi counterparts, reinforcing the enduring strategic and emotional ties between the two nations.
The meeting also spotlighted the deepening strategic partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to expand cooperation across defense, economic, and political domains under the longstanding Pakistan-Saudi strategic framework.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and a high-level delegation, Sharif is on a four-day regional tour that includes visits to Qatar and Turkey, signaling a broader effort to consolidate Pakistan’s diplomatic footprint in the Muslim world.
In a post on X, Dar described the meeting as one marked by “warmth, brotherhood, and a shared vision,” noting that both sides explored new avenues to strengthen cooperation across all sectors.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for his part, acknowledged Pakistan’s “constructive role” in ongoing peace efforts, including the contributions of military leadership, reflecting growing international recognition of Islamabad’s diplomatic outreach.
With tensions simmering across the region, Pakistan’s latest engagement with Saudi Arabia signals a calculated bid to reposition itself—not just as a traditional ally, but as an active and influential peace broker on the global stage.
