MILAN: Inter Milan secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday, striking twice in stoppage time to reclaim the top spot in Serie A.
The match, held at San Siro, saw Fiorentina initially take the lead with a stunning goal from Alex Jimenez, but Inter’s late surge turned the tide.
With the clock ticking down, Marcus Thuram equalized in the 91st minute before winning a penalty that Piotr Zielinski converted in the 98th minute, sealing a remarkable comeback.
This victory marks Inter’s fifth comeback win of the season, lifting them to 22 points, level with Lazio, while Fiorentina’s winless streak extended to four matches, leaving them in 18th place.
Despite conceding for the 10th time this season, Inter’s head coach Cristian Chivu remained unfazed by the defensive lapses. “That’s football: sometimes you concede,” he stated in a post-match interview with DAZN. “The important thing is not to let your heads drop and to maintain the same mentality.”
In other matches, Juventus bounced back from a poor run with a 2-0 win over Lecce, moving them into seventh place, while AC Milan also found form, defeating Udinese 2-0 to climb to fourth.
As the season progresses, Inter’s resilience and attacking prowess will be crucial as they aim to maintain their lead in the competitive Serie A.
