ISLAMABAD: Bestway Group officially launched Chinese automaker Geely Auto in Pakistan on Saturday, marking a significant step in the country’s automotive landscape.

The company has acquired the Proton plant located at Port Qasim, Karachi, to facilitate the assembly of Geely vehicles.

As Geely’s sole authorized distributor, Bestway Automotive will oversee both sales and after-sales services.

Group Managing Director Irfan Sheikh emphasized the company’s commitment to localization and the establishment of a charging network to ensure a sustainable presence in the market.

The launch features three innovative models: the EX2 compact electric hatchback, the EX5 electric SUV, and the Starray EM-i, which utilizes range-extended EV technology.

Bestway has invested over $350 million in Pakistan over the past three years, creating approximately 20,000 jobs.

Evin Ye, Vice President of Geely Auto International Corporation, highlighted that Pakistan is Geely’s first market in South Asia, noting the company’s unique advantage as the only automaker equipped with a low-orbit satellite network.

Looking ahead, Bestway aims to enhance its infrastructure and expand its product offerings, which could significantly impact the local automotive industry and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The introduction of electric vehicles aligns with global trends towards sustainability and may encourage further investments in green technology.
