Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert for April 18 to 23, warning of an extended spell of unstable conditions including thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rain, and possible hailstorms across multiple regions of Pakistan.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the upcoming weather system is expected to affect large parts of the country in phases, with upper and central Punjab likely to experience intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms on April 18 and 19.
Major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Faisalabad are forecast to receive rainfall along with strong winds.
In southern Punjab, mostly dry conditions are expected; however, isolated light showers may occur on April 18, 19, and 23.

Balochistan is also likely to be impacted by the system, with thunderstorms and rain predicted in areas including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, and Khuzdar on multiple days between April 18 and 23. Coastal regions such as Gwadar may experience strong winds and light rainfall during the same period.
Sindh, including Karachi, is expected to face dust storms and scattered thunderstorms on April 19 and 20, while temperatures are likely to remain above seasonal averages in several districts.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive rain and strong winds, with snowfall possible in upper mountainous areas. Authorities have also warned of potential landslides in vulnerable hilly regions due to the weather conditions.
NDMA cautioned that strong winds, lightning strikes, and hailstorms may damage weak structures, trees, and power infrastructure, while rainfall could make roads slippery and disrupt traffic flow across affected areas.
Citizens have been advised to limit unnecessary travel, especially in high-risk regions, and to stay updated through official weather advisories. Tourists heading to northern areas have been urged to check road and weather conditions before traveling.
