New York: A widespread disruption to Microsoft Outlook affected thousands of users across the United States on Monday, disrupting access to email and other essential workplace services.
User complaints began increasing at around 9:00 am PT, according to Downdetector, with more than 13,000 reports recorded within minutes. The number of reported problems continued to rise as the morning progressed.
The outage affected both individual and business accounts, with users reporting difficulties accessing their email and calendar functions. The disruption was particularly significant for professionals who rely on Outlook for daily communication, meetings and work-related coordination.
Social media platforms were flooded with complaints as users sought information about the service interruption and questioned when normal access would be restored.
The incident highlighted the dependence of businesses and remote workers on cloud-based communication platforms, where even a temporary interruption can disrupt meetings, correspondence and routine operations.
Microsoft had not issued a public statement detailing the cause, scale or expected resolution of the disruption at the time of reporting.
Downdetector continued tracking user reports throughout the day, offering a real-time indication of the scale of the problems being experienced by Outlook users.
Microsoft has faced similar service interruptions in the past, with several previous incidents eventually being resolved within a few hours. The company’s response to Monday’s disruption and the time required to restore services remained unclear.
