Five Illegal Kilns Demolished in H-16

Islamabad: Islamabad authorities intensified their campaign against air pollution on Tuesday by demolishing five illegally operating brick kilns in Sector H-16 for failing to adopt mandatory zig-zag technology designed to curb emissions.
The enforcement drive, led by the Assistant Commissioner Pothohar, targeted kiln operators accused of violating environmental regulations and contributing to deteriorating air quality in the federal capital.
The operation was conducted jointly by the district administration, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad Police, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with officials supervising the demolitions to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
Authorities said the affected kilns were operating without the required zig-zag technology, which significantly reduces smoke and particulate emissions compared to conventional brick kiln methods.
The district administration described the action as part of its broader strategy to curb industrial pollution and enforce environmental standards across Islamabad. Officials warned that inspections and enforcement actions would continue against businesses found violating pollution control regulations.
Kiln owners have been urged to adopt approved technologies and comply with environmental requirements to avoid legal action.
The administration reiterated that protecting public health and improving air quality remain key priorities, adding that similar operations could be launched in other parts of the capital where industrial units are found operating in violation of environmental standards.
