Trump Says Major Decision Looms Over Iran

Washington: US President Donald Trump has said he is approaching a major decision on whether to resume large-scale military operations against Iran, as Washington and Tehran remain engaged in contacts over a possible agreement.

In an interview with ‘Axios’. Trump said Iran was in direct contact with the United States and wanted to reach a deal with Washington, but cautioned that the situation could change quickly.

Trump said he was weighing whether to launch further major attacks against Iran, describing the decision as a significant one that could determine the next phase of the conflict.

The US president also said Washington had provided strong protection to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries amid the continuing regional tensions.

Trump is expected to meet leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman next week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He said he wanted to hear their views on the situation and discuss the next steps regarding Iran.

Trump also indicated that he could meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the UN gathering.

The latest comments come as the conflict continues to affect shipping and energy markets across the region. Reuters reported that fighting around the Strait of Hormuz and attacks involving Iran-backed Houthi forces have continued to disrupt regional maritime routes.

Trump’s remarks signal that the possibility of renewed large-scale US military action against Iran remains under consideration, even as diplomatic contacts continue.
