Iman Mazari, Hadi Ali Re-Arrested After Release

Islamabad: Lawyer and activist Iman Mazari and her husband, lawyer Hadi Ali Chattha, have reportedly been re-arrested shortly after their release from Adiala Jail.

According to police sources, Islamabad Police took the couple into custody again and left the Adiala Jail premises with them.

Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court granted bail to Mazari and Chattha and suspended the trial court’s verdict against them, subject to the submission of surety bonds worth Rs200,000 each.

Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan said the bail was being granted pending a final decision in the case currently being heard by the Islamabad High Court.

The court also observed that both Mazari and Chattha are lawyers and that their dignity should be respected. However, it advised them to maintain the decorum of the court.

SC Grants Bail to Imaan Mazari, Hadi Ali Chattha

A day earlier, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has granted bail to lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, while suspending the trial court’s verdict against the couple.

The bail was granted subject to the submission of surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan said the relief had been granted pending the final decision in the case currently being heard by the Islamabad High Court.

The judge observed that Mazari and Chattha are both lawyers and, therefore, the court was extending due respect to them. He added, however, that they should also be advised to maintain the decorum of the court.

Justice Afghan further remarked that there is a distinction between the status of a lawyer and that of an ordinary citizen.
