Minister Talal Criticises KP Govt Over Counter-Terror Failures

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry on Monday launched a scathing critique against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government, citing severe shortcomings in leadership, resource management, and the use of authority in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Addressing a press conference in the federal capital, Chaudhry pointed to the recent deadly suicide blast in Dera Ismail Khan and criticized KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s lengthy public address following the tragedy. The state minister questioned the provincial leadership’s reluctance to openly name external threats, specifically asking why authorities maintained a soft stance regarding Afghanistan and failed to explicitly condemn cross-border proxies fuelling instability in the region.
The sharp rebuke underscores deepening political friction between the federal administration and the KP provincial government over national security strategies. Critics argue that persistent discord between Islamabad and Peshawar severely undermines cohesive counter-terrorism operations, leaving vulnerable communities exposed to militant violence and eroding public trust in regional governance structures.
Federal authorities are expected to review inter-provincial security coordination protocols in upcoming high-level meetings. Meanwhile, pressure mounts on regional administrations to streamline intelligence-sharing mechanisms and adopt a unified, decisive stance against militant outfits operating near the western border.
