KP Govt Plans Faceless Anti-Terrorism Courts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is set to establish faceless anti-terrorism courts as part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance its fight against terrorism, officials announced during a televised briefing on Sunday.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi attended the briefing, where Secretary Home Amjad Ali Khan detailed the initiative aimed at protecting witnesses, prosecutors, and judges involved in terrorism cases. “Witnesses often fear coming forward, so we have proposed amendments to create faceless courts to ensure their safety,” Khan stated.

This initiative comes alongside a significant financial commitment, with the provincial government planning to allocate Rs70 billion to the Counter-Terrorism Department and police over the next year. This funding aims to bolster the capacity of law enforcement agencies in their ongoing battle against terrorism.

As the security situation in the region remains precarious, these measures are expected to instill greater public confidence in the judicial process and enhance the overall effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts. The government is also expected to outline further steps in upcoming meetings to ensure the swift implementation of these initiatives.
