Makkah: Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense has issued a high alert as several regions across the Kingdom prepare for a spell of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and potentially dangerous weather conditions expected to continue through Tuesday.

The National Center for Meteorology has forecast moderate to heavy rain, strong winds, hailstorms and possible flash floods in various parts of the country, prompting authorities to urge residents and tourists to exercise caution.

According to Al Arabiya Urdu, the General Directorate of Civil Defense has advised the public to follow safety instructions and avoid areas vulnerable to sudden flooding.

Authorities have particularly warned against entering valleys, seasonal waterways (wadis) and low-lying areas, where rainwater can accumulate rapidly and trigger flash floods. People have also been urged not to cross flooded roads or swim in seasonal water channels.

Several Regions Face Heavy Rainfall

In its November 5 forecast, the National Center for Meteorology predicted rainfall across multiple regions of Saudi Arabia from Friday through Tuesday.

The Makkah region is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, hail and a risk of flash flooding.

Other potentially affected areas include Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Madinah, Hail, Al-Jawf and the Northern Borders region.

Rainfall and strong winds are also expected in parts of Tabuk and the northern areas of the Eastern Province, while fog may develop in some locations.

The Civil Defense has emphasised that valleys and dry riverbeds can become particularly dangerous during rainfall. Water flowing from distant areas can suddenly surge through these channels, creating flash floods even in places where little or no rain has fallen.

Residents and visitors have been advised to monitor official weather updates, comply with instructions issued by relevant authorities and avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk locations.

Although November rainfall and thunderstorms are relatively common in Saudi Arabia, particularly in the western and southwestern mountainous regions, intense downpours can cause dangerous flooding and disrupt daily activities.

Authorities have urged everyone to prioritise safety and remain vigilant until the adverse weather conditions subside.
