Biological methods can counter effects of global warming

Islamabad: Global warming is on the rise; however its effects can be countered by forest and biological methods, said Muzaffargarh District Forest Officer Ejaz Ahmad.

He was speaking at an event organized by Government Post Graduate in connection with “The International Day of Forests”.

The event was organized with resolve to keep on putting maximum input in the billion tree tsunami project being initiated under PM’s vision across the district and to raise awareness about preserving all types of trees to benefit the current and future generations.

Ejaz Ahmad further said that the district was enriched with a wide range of forests.

He said the Day was aimed to inculcate awareness about the importance of forests, particularly when global warming is increasing day by day.

Meanwhile, a recent study has revealed how global warming has dramatically reshaped extreme rainfall and snowfall patterns across the Northern Hemisphere over the past seven decades.

The research, led by scientists from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was published in the journal Advances in Climate Change Research.

According to the findings, global warming has altered the distribution of both solid and liquid precipitation — leading to significant changes in the intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall and snowfall events.

Using ERA5-Land reanalysis data covering the period from 1950 to 2022, researchers conducted a comprehensive analysis of long-term trends, temperature sensitivity, and the driving mechanisms behind extreme rainfall and snowfall across the Northern Hemisphere.
