Heatwave Tightens Hold on Karachi as Mercury Nears 38°C
News Desk
Karachi: An intense heatwave continued to grip Karachi on Monday, with health experts urging residents to take precautionary measures as rising temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illnesses and infections.
According to medical specialists, the combination of high temperatures and humidity can weaken immunity and raise the likelihood of skin infections, dehydration, and stomach-related diseases.
Citizens have been advised to avoid consuming outside food and beverages, which may be more prone to contamination in hot weather conditions.
Doctors further recommended wearing light and breathable clothing, covering the head when stepping outdoors, and maintaining proper hydration by drinking safe, preferably boiled, water.

They also stressed the importance of keeping the skin clean and dry during excessive sweating to prevent rashes, pimples, and allergic reactions.
Experts added that washing the face with cold water and applying a light, non-greasy moisturizer can help reduce skin dryness and irritation caused by prolonged heat exposure.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that temperatures in Karachi are expected to reach around 38°C during the day. The minimum temperature recorded overnight stood at 27°C.
The department also noted that southwest winds are blowing at a speed of about 19 kilometers per hour, while humidity levels have risen to 78 percent, conditions that are likely to make the heat feel more intense for residents.
Authorities have urged the public, especially children, the elderly, and outdoor workers, to limit exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours as the heatwave conditions persist.
