Govt to Overhaul National Civil Awards System

ISLAMABAD: In a significant administrative move, the federal government has formally decided to review and overhaul the existing system and procedures for conferring civil awards across Pakistan.
The decision comes as part of broader efforts to ensure greater transparency, meritocracy, and institutional rigor in recognizing meritorious services rendered by citizens in various fields of national life.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken personal cognizance of the matter and constituted a high-level committee tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the current nomination and selection framework. Following directives from the premier’s office, the Cabinet Division has initiated preliminary consultations and paperwork to facilitate the committee’s mandate, aiming to eliminate procedural loopholes and streamline the entire process from grassroots nominations to final approval.
The impending reform is expected to redefine the criteria for national honors, ensuring that prestigious accolades are awarded strictly on the basis of exceptional contributions to science, arts, public service, sports, and social welfare, devoid of political patronage or bureaucratic bias.
