Pak-England ODI to Go Pink: Here’s What Fans Can Expect
News Desk
LAHORE: Cricket will take on a purpose beyond the boundary ropes when Pakistan face England in an ODI at Gaddafi Stadium on October 25, with pink jerseys, specially designed stumps and stadium-wide awareness messages turning the high-profile fixture into a platform for breast cancer awareness.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dedicated the match to its Pink Ribbon campaign, aimed at highlighting the importance of early detection, timely diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Through this initiative, the board hopes to use cricket’s enormous popularity to deliver a potentially life-saving message to millions of people.
As part of the campaign, Pakistan’s players will take the field in specially designed pink kits, while pink stumps will add a distinctive touch to the occasion. Members of the England team, match officials and commentators will also be invited to wear pink ribbons in support of the cause.
The campaign will extend beyond the pitch, with awareness messages displayed on the stadium’s giant screens and LED boards. Special activities will begin two hours before the match, giving spectators an opportunity to engage with the initiative before the action gets underway.
The PCB has also prepared special pink shirts for fans, which will be available from October 19 at the board’s merchandise shop at Gaddafi Stadium and through online sales channels. National team players will further reinforce the campaign’s message through special video messages encouraging people to understand the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
From the Cricket Ground to Early Detection
Beyond the match-day spectacle, the initiative aims to encourage practical action against breast cancer. The Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust will provide free breast cancer screening facilities for fans at a hospital in Lahore on October 24 and 26, offering women an opportunity to seek screening and guidance.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed said the board wanted to harness cricket’s popularity to raise awareness about breast cancer and emphasize the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment.
PCB Director Commercial Ali Adnan Zaidi encouraged cricket fans to support the Pink Ribbon campaign and spread awareness about early screening within their families and communities.
Umer Aftab, chief executive officer of Pink Ribbon Pakistan, said the partnership offered an opportunity to reach millions with breast cancer awareness messages and help women in need of treatment.
A Message Bigger Than the Game
For one day, the focus at Gaddafi Stadium will extend beyond runs, wickets and the contest between two international sides. The pink-themed fixture is intended to bring a critical health issue into the public spotlight and encourage conversations that can otherwise be overlooked.
By combining the reach of international cricket with breast cancer awareness activities, the PCB and Pink Ribbon Pakistan hope to remind spectators that early detection and timely medical attention can make a meaningful difference.
As Pakistan and England prepare to compete on the field, the campaign will carry a message that reaches far beyond the final score: awareness, screening and timely treatment matter.
