Islamabad: An 11-year-old girl who was kidnapped from Peshawar was rescued by Sindh Police during an operation in the Kacha area of Khanpur in Shikarpur district, officials said on Friday.
According to a police spokesperson, the girl was safely recovered from the custody of kidnappers during a targeted operation carried out on the basis of intelligence information. The accused, however, managed to escape during the raid.
Police officials said multiple teams participated in the operation. Following the successful rescue, local residents praised the efforts of Shikarpur Police and raised slogans in support of the force.
SSP Shikarpur said the rescued girl would be handed over to her family after completion of legal formalities.
According to police and family members, the girl, identified as Khurram Saeed alias Haram, had gone missing from Dilazak Road area in Peshawar on March 28, 2026. Neighbours later informed the family that the girl had gone out to buy biryani but did not return.
Two days after the disappearance, the family reportedly received a call from an unknown number claiming that the girl had been kidnapped and taken to Sukkur. The alleged kidnappers initially demanded Rs3 million in ransom. Due to financial difficulties, the family offered Rs1.5 million, which the kidnappers allegedly agreed to accept.
According to the girl’s mother, the family arranged the money by selling jewellery and borrowing from relatives.
The mother later travelled to Sukkur along with her husband and son, where the kidnappers allegedly began giving them instructions over the phone. She was first asked to get off at a bypass and later instructed to separate from her husband and son before boarding a wagon alone.
According to her account, a man riding a motorcycle later took her to a secluded house where she was allegedly confined after handing over the ransom amount.
A few days later, the kidnappers allegedly informed the woman that she would be taken to her daughter. After travelling for nearly three hours, she was taken to the Kacha area of Shikarpur, where the girl was allegedly being kept in a temporary shelter made of thorn bushes.
The family alleged that the kidnappers later demanded an additional Rs1.5 million before sending the woman back.
Police said further investigation into the kidnapping network and the escape of the suspects is underway.
