GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet, led by Chief Minister Amjad Hussain, approved a significant funding package of Rs220 million for the Skardu Cadet College during a meeting on Tuesday.
This decision is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing development across various sectors including education, health, and public welfare.
In addition to the funding for the cadet college, the cabinet sanctioned Rs271.1 million in compensation for damages incurred to government property during the incidents of March 1, 2026.
Furthermore, it approved the transfer of alternative land to residents of Tali Das in Ghizer district who were affected by recent floods.
The meeting also focused on educational reforms, including the regularisation of teachers under several educational programs.
This funding and the accompanying measures are expected to bolster educational infrastructure in the region, providing better opportunities for students and addressing the challenges faced by educators, particularly in hard-to-reach areas like the Gilgit Nupoh Basin.
The endorsement of agreements to operate 10 government schools in Shigar district in collaboration with the private sector reflects a commitment to improving educational access.
Looking ahead, the cabinet approved the amended Digital Media Policy 2025 and recommended the presentation of the GB Livestock Bill 2026 and the Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2026 to the provincial assembly. These legislative efforts are poised to address critical social issues and enhance governance in the region.
