Govt Websites Worldwide Go Offline Amid Urgent Security Flaw Fixes

News Desk

LONDON: Government websites across Europe and beyond went offline on Wednesday following the revelation of critical vulnerabilities in the widely used PHP programming language.

This prompted website operators globally to take immediate action to safeguard their systems.

Developers of PHP issued urgent updates to address these vulnerabilities, which had remained undetected for years until artificial intelligence tools uncovered them.

They urged all users to implement the fixes without delay, citing the potential for exploitation by malicious actors.

The situation has raised alarms among tech firms, with warnings that some hackers are already taking advantage of the newly disclosed flaws.

As a precaution, numerous government agencies in Europe opted to take their websites offline to mitigate risks. Experts predict a surge in cyber intrusions as hackers rush to exploit the vulnerabilities before they are patched.

Costin Raiu, co-founder of cybersecurity firm TLP: Black, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that AI is fueling a “race to exploit” these vulnerabilities.

He warned that the next phase could involve the mass compromise of vulnerable web servers across the internet.
