Islamabad: China will have built over 2.9 million 5G base stations by the end of 2023 and 6G research and development will be accelerated as well.

Industry and Information Technology Chinese Minister Jin Zhuanglong informed that the country plans to add around 600,000 such stations this year, and expand the coverage of 5G services in rural areas and industrial parks.

Minister Jin said that China now has more than 2.34 million 5G base stations, and there are more than 575 million 5G phone users. Jin also noted that 5G technologies are widely used in the economy, particularly in industries like mining, power supply, and the production of huge jetliners.

With plans to build more than 10,000 5G factories during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–25), Zhuanglong further stated that efforts will be made to promote the industrial application of 5G, particularly in manufacturing.

Research and development of 6G will be pursued more, drawing on the advantages of China’s extremely large market and fully developed industrial system, the Chinese Minister added.
