Ahsan Iqbal Reveals Jail Time Over Sports City Controversy
News Desk
ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ahsan Iqbal, has disclosed that he spent two and a half months in jail due to his involvement in the controversial Sports City project.
Iqbal made these remarks during a press conference held on Wednesday, shedding light on the political ramifications of his imprisonment.
During the press briefing, Iqbal stated that his incarceration was a direct consequence of his efforts to promote the Sports City initiative, which aimed to enhance sports infrastructure in Pakistan.
He criticized the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for what he termed as politically motivated actions against him and other political figures.
‘I was sent to jail for championing a project that could have transformed sports in our country,’ he asserted.
The implications of Iqbal’s statements resonate deeply within the current political landscape of Pakistan, where allegations of political victimization are rampant.
His experience highlights the ongoing tensions between political leaders and accountability institutions, raising questions about the fairness of the judicial process in politically charged cases.
Looking ahead, Iqbal has called for a thorough investigation into the NAB’s practices and the political motivations behind such imprisonments.
He urged fellow politicians to unite against what he perceives as an abuse of power, emphasizing the need for reforms in the accountability process to ensure justice for all.
